The Calais Free Library has been serving the people of Calais, Maine and the surrounding cities and towns for well over one hundred years. In 1985 an extensive addition was added to the original building - which is on the National Register of Historic Places. Also, in 1985 the Calais Free Library Art Gallery was opened to the public.
